Charity

Several Christian groups since the seventeenth century have adopted the well-known saying, “Unity in necessary things; liberty in doubtful things; charity in all things.” That saying’s focus on the importance of charity, or love, reminds me of the words of the apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 13:13 when he wrote, “. . . but the greatest of these is love.”

Regardless of the setting, unity is the goal and liberty should be extended on non-essential matters. But love is never optional. Without it, Paul says, our unity and liberty are just a lot of noise. Between unity, liberty, and love, the greatest is love.

This is David Jeremiah encouraging you to get on the road to new life . . . discover God’s love . . . on Route 66.
